Unity in the LatinX Community
This powerful and disgusting image sums up why I do what I do.
I've been told many times that minorities this day and age have little to complain about, as we live under fair and equal governance, and in fact enjoy more privilege and benefits than the "majority". If today wasn't a prime and disgraceful example of the complete opposite, I don't know what is. We've spent too much time debating privilege of all kinds - what it is or whether it even exists - while radical white privilege evolved into gross demonstrations of white supremacy culminating with today's threat to this country's freedom.
As latinos, I'll be the first to admit that we've traditionally never fought for our rights on a united front. Enough is enough. It's time we stand with our Latin-American brothers, sisters, etc. and focus on the real problem - systemic oppression.
These bigots at least had the courage to publicly defend their "values". In reality, many individuals and the institutions/networks they comprise and control that share similar collective views enjoy and/or benefit from a system of hypocrisy, denial, inhumane, and systemically oppressive yet "objective" - albeit shallow - rationale.
This is why I do what I do and I will fight for truth, justice, and equality until my last breath. Join me, or stay out of my way.
